Family
The first time I got incredibly lucky was when I met, fell in love with, and married Maura Anne Stadem Suilebhan. A native of Crookston, MN — which, if you know the place, speaks volumes about her grace and character — Maura traveled and lived all over France and in Montreal before arriving in DC. A master’s degree in French led her to a career in various Francophilic organizations, including the cultural section of the French embassy, but she has now entered school to become an occupational therapist. A fine and talented actor as well, we’ve had two chances to work together, on the Taffety Punk Theatre Company’s production of my play THE FAITHKILLER and in a one-woman show called DEVELOP that I was commissioned to create (in collaboration with photographer Tiffany KB) for the Source Theatre Festival. We live in a 1940 Tudor-style home in Silver Spring, MD. We have three cats. We are embarrassingly happy.
The second time I got incredibly lucky was with the birth of our son, Porter Karl Suilebhan. He’s still quite fresh, but his temperament so far is gentle, patient, and sweet. He also happens to be incredibly strong: he’s been standing since he was only four weeks old, and he looks (a bit bewilderingly, I must say) rather ripped for a little baby. Most folks say he looks like me, but I insist he’s got his mother’s charm and beauty. Let’s hope he’s as smart and kind as she is, too. Oh, and — as this picture shows — he clearly loves to rock.
