Bio
Gwydion Suilebhan is a DC-based playwright and theater blogger. Resident playwright for the Taffety Punk Theatre Company, Gwydion is the author of Hot & Cold, Reals, The Butcher, Abstract Nude, The Constellation, Let X, The Faithkiller, Cracked, The Great Dismal, and Buggy & Tyler. His plays have been commissioned, produced, workshopped, and read by theaters in New York, Chicago, Los Angeles, DC, Baltimore, St. Louis, and Boston, including (among others) the Ensemble Studio Theatre, Theater J, Active Cultures, Source Theater Festival, HotCity Theatre, Midtown International Theatre Festival, Capital Fringe Festival, Maieutic Theatre Works, and Theater of the First Amendment. He has received two Individual Artist Fellowships from the DC Commission on the Arts and Humanities, and in 2009 he was a finalist for Outstanding Emerging Artist at the DC Mayor’s Arts Awards.
Gwydion, who serves as the DC representative for the Dramatists Guild, earned his master’s degree in poetry from the Writing Seminars at Johns Hopkins University. He lectures on theater and the arts around the country; his recent and forthcoming engagements include TEDxWDC, TEDxMichiganAve, the Center for Inquiry, and the Ethical Society of St. Louis. In addition, his commentary about theater appears on HowlRound, 2am Theatre, TheatreFace, and in Stage Directions magazine, as well as this blog.
Gwydion’s other publications include Inner Harbor: Ten Poems; more than 75 articles on poetry, education, grammar, and cuisine; and the Foreword to The Complete Idiot’s Guide to Grammar and Style. By day (part-time) he consults for Threespot, a digital engagement agency crafting interactive experiences that connect large arts and culture organizations, major national and international non-profits, and federal government agencies with their audiences. His clients have included, among many others, the Peace Corps, the Department of State, the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services, the Council on Foreign Relations, the National Wildlife Federation, XM Radio, the Drug Policy Alliance, Zipcar, and the National Academies.
